Artistic creation

Cinema, photography, poetic writing, musical creation, painting, installation... Benoît Labourdette is a filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist. He creates and transmits in a wide variety of contexts. Many of his films are available free of charge here, along with other creations.

  • Cinema is my primary and central artistic practice. For me, cinema is first and foremost an architectural material, which I experiment with in its poetic, narrative and experimental dimensions. My approach to cinema is always situated, i.e. linked to the reality of the production situation, often atypical or collective, and to the process of distribution or participation. My films could therefore be classified as creative documentaries or experimental cinema.
  • For me, photography, by the mechanical nature of its technical operation, is more a matter of time than a visual matter: in its silver salts, or pixels today, it’s time that’s captured, preserved and reinvented with each glance. Time of life, time of vision, time of poetry. I create photographic series, most often around a formal constraint.
  • Painting and graphics are the original material of plastic work, which I feel is intimately linked to photography, as it also contains the time of its gesture and imagination. I carry out calligraphy projects or pictorial approaches linked to choreographic approaches.
  • Installation, i.e. the existence in space and time of art forms, is crucial, because it’s about the way in which the work changes through its relationship with its recipients. I also produce installed works, often collectively, in museums, galleries and other cultural venues.
  • Musical creation and work with sound accompany all my artistic practices, both personal and collective. A number of records and individual pieces are available free of charge here.
  • Poetic writing is present in its own right, as well as transversally in my work. It can be found as much in my films as in my graphic and musical creations.
